2008 Conference and AGM news
35 WEA people and visitors attended our April 2008 conference and AGM at Capital House, Wellington with its panoramic view overlooking Lyall Bay and out to Cook Strait.
The workshop format gave the opportunity to follow through one theme or to sample different issues over the three sessions. The workshops with on-going themes sought to give meaning to our constitutional purpose of pursuing social justice and how are we honouring te Tiriti, while others had a more practical focus.
All were led by WEA members who shared their skills generously — thanks to Christine Herzog, Jen Margaret, David Tutty, and Katherine Peet.
Friday 11 April was a busy pre-conference day, with a very successful professional development session facilitated by Pat Rosier, looking at organisational behavior and strategies for change; a lunch time meeting with the Minister of Tertiary Education Hon Maryan Street; and there was a meeting for the WEA presidents to get together to share their own interests while WEA coordinators met to share their special interest ideas, problems and solutions.
At the AGM Christine Herzog was elected president of FWEA for the coming year, with thanks for the valuable work she is doing to revitalise the organisation.
