Canterbury WEA

Roopu Kaimahi Matauranga o Waitaha

The Federation of Workers Educational Associations. Te Whetereihana o Nga Kaimahi Akoranga o Aotearoa. The Canterbury WEA offers a range of learning activities from 59 Gloucester Street, Christchurch.

CWEA provides opportunities through courses, talks and forums for people to come together in a friendly atmosphere to learn something new, listen, discuss, and have fun. It is not linked to any political or religious groups.

Everyone's welcome

A programme is published four times a year which details our courses for the coming term. Some of our most popular courses include Portrait and Figure Drawing and Painting, Current Affairs, Armchair Travel, Creative Writing and Singing for Pleasure. We also organise lectures, forums and seminars on topical national or international issues.

The North West Branch runs its own programme from Bishopdale Community Centre.

Why not join a WEA Club or group?

WEA Clubs and groups meet throughout the year. You can play bridge, go out with the Field Club, or join the Sketch Club or the Writers' Fellowship. There are also groups who meet weekly to play chess and mah jong.
