Wellington WEA
The Federation of Workers Educational Associations. Te Whetereihana o Nga Kaimahi Akoranga o Aotearoa. Welcome to Wellington WEA
Education For Social Change
A new committee has achieved quite a lot but is still in the process of developing its strategy, expanding its reach and creating new projects.
We intend to continue in the spirit of the original WEAs, established in this country in 1915, which was to provide education for social change.
We recognise the inequalities and injustices that exist within Aotearoa / New Zealand society and promote a more just and equitable society.
We aim to focus on creating a sustainable world by promoting environmental education, which necessarily increases understanding of cultural, social, political and economic factors.
We place special emphasis on our independent status — outside the formal education system — in order to make learning opportunities available to those who could otherwise miss out.
Our work will be carried out mainly by volunteers, offering low cost non-formal learning through ongoing courses and seminar programmes, forums, workshops, discussion groups and support for community initiatives.
We are a constituent of the NZ Federation of WEAs and adhere to its values.

Change of Venue
Until now, our lunchtime forums have been held at the Betty Campbell Centre. This has now been closed and we will be running the forums (beginning early March) in the Centre for Global Action located on the second floor of the old James Smith building on the corner of Manners and Cuba streets.
